Anniversaries~Handmade Cards

I and my husband are not fond of /monthsaries/. If you look up that word in the dictionary, it's not even there :) But we do celebrate birthdays, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and of course wedding anniversaries. We do them in modest ways.

Today is our 3rd anniversary and we're having dinner at my in-laws' house. Eating with family is our way of celebrating.

I'm not into bouquets of flowers as I find them extravagant; thrifty me. Flowers wilt when not in water so I rather have them planted in pots...an influence I probably got from working at an online flower shop. See link in image's caption.

So I'm not expecting flowers this year since my husband knows I'm not into those.

To make this day a bit special, I made a card for him. Drawn with watercolor, scanned, filtered a bit, and printed on a photo paper. I hope our children will inherit the tradition of handmade cards. I'm not really good with words. I can't put my emotions through them, but I can definitely do it through crafts.

Last year, I made this:
It was made with cardstock cut out with x-acto knife, added a red paper in between, and wrote his name at the bottom.
I find it exciting to create more wedding anniversary cards with different media.

Will probably do it for a young friend who just turned 18.

If ye are prepared ye shall not fear

I have learned so much last night as our family discussed about preparedness. We indeed now live in perilous times. There are rumors of wars, a possible epidemic /ebola virus/, and climate change. Those could frighten anyone, everyone; whether rich or poor, educated or not. I was one.

Get your own instruction
But our God has established ways on how we can cope and safely gather. We should heed to the prophets and the revelations they give.

I was able to find an instruction from the leaders of our Church dated 2002 which told us to start preparing a year's supplies of essentials. At the same time we were instructed to have our own 72-hour kits; purposely for calamities and disasters.

Come, ye thankful people, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.
All is safely gathered in
Ere the winter storms begin.
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied.
Come to God’s own temple, come;
Raise the song of harvest home.

Hymns, no. 94

Never has this instruction had so much impact on me till last night. The challenge is real. Prices of necessities would inevitably rise. And if ever an epidemic would strike, chances are you would have to stay at home for safety. Your storage of essentials would sustain you and your family.

Glorious :)

"It's like a symphony
Just keep listening
And pretty soon you'll start
To figure out your part
Everyone plays piece
In their own melodies
And each one of us
Is glorious"

Did you know that I'm a Mormon?

My life is not perfect. I am imperfect in so many ways. I'm not the best wife, not the best mom. But I'm glad God has given me every day to become better. I'm blessed with a husband and a daughter who are patient enough to wait for me until I learn a lesson. Even when I commit mistakes they still think I do great. They make me feel loved. They are my most favorite people in the whole world.

I do the same chores every day but they are not mundane to me. Being a helpmeet to my husband and nurturer to my child/ren are the most important roles that I greatly value. I pray that I may live long and have many "every days" to improve and hopefully correct the errors I commit along the way. I pray that I may live long to make my family the happiest.

I love being a woman. I love being a wife. I love being a mother. It is not easy to keep a home but Heavenly Father is ever listening; He is always there. He perfectly knows how to help me grow and do well in the duties He entrusted me. He is patient with me. He loves me. And He will never leave me.

Scrambled Egg with Tomatoes: Chinese

When I went out of cheese for my daughter's meal, she refused the scrambled egg+tomatoes that I prepared. I don't use salt for her food because she's too young for that so I use cheese instead. She's okay with scrambled egg minus the cheese, but mixing it with tomatoes is too much for her; most probably because of the sour taste.

Gladly I was able to find a Chinese recipe for scrambled eggs with tomatoes, though I missed some instructions, still it worked well for her.

1. tomatoes
cherry tomatoes

2. beaten egg. *DON'T ADD SALT*

3. let the beaten egg set first.
you need approximately 2 tbsp of oil,
a little bit more than the usual.
it's for tomatoes to cook well.
but don't worry this won't turn out oily.

4. add tomatoes on the side. and a pinch of salt

5. let tomatoes cook under low heat. juice them out.
the juice should dissolve the salt.

6. once tomatoes are soft, gently mix it with the egg
and turn off heat.

This recipe brings back childhood memories. This is how my mother's cooking tasted like.
No MSG!!
I was surprised to totally loving how it turned out even with no onion, garlic, and black pepper powder. I'm a huge SPICE lover, you know..

Ratio for this by the way is 1 egg to 2 tomatoes

You could enjoy the natural taste of egg and tomatoes because the salt was dissolved and evenly mixed. Plus it's cheaper since you don't throw in spices. I can't wait for my tomatoes to grow fast!!
